No More Overthinking (Video)
It’s not uncommon for young players, even the talented ones, to "overthink" when they play.
Say they miss a shot or two; maybe they are afraid to be taken out, or perhaps mom or dad is yelling that they are not shooting enough.
Whatever the root cause is, it will lead to overthinking and making up your mind prematurely, which rarely produces positive results.
I was able to help recruit Tyrese Haliburton to Iowa State and have followed his game intently ever since. As you watch this clip, notice:
1. How aggressive he is on the touch.
2. How confidently he attacks the open space (there is no overthinking and he did not predetermine).
3. Instead, he trusted himself completely, knowing the defense was at a disadvantage and that he was going to read, react, and know whatever the defense does is wrong.
As you go into your games, do so with the same approach!
